Since January 2019, Philippe Gérard is an adviser at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Communication Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT). Before joining the Commission, Philippe has successively done research at the University of Namur, practiced as a lawyer at the Brussels’ bar (Belgium), and advised broadcasters as a legal adviser at the European Broadcasting Union (Geneva). Philippe joined the European Commission in 2000, where he has developed and implemented policies in areas such as electronic communications and broadcasting, privacy, EU law monitoring and enforcement, international cooperation, and international trade negotiations. Philippe Gérard holds a degree in law from the University of Louvain (Belgium, 1991) and a certificate in European and International law from the Royal University of Leiden (the Netherlands, 1992).
